Scan and validation
This is the cashier's screen. It checks a customer's voucher, holds it while you ring up the sale, and records what your till applied.
Required role: cashier, branch manager or store owner, at a branch you are assigned to.
Before you start: the branch must be open and have a connected, enrolled scanner. See Store and branch readiness.
1. Choose your scanner
Under Scanner and branch, choose the scanner you are using. The card above the code says where you are redeeming — for example Redeeming at The Avenues — Grand Avenue.
If there is only one authorised scanner it is selected for you. If there is none, the screen says No scanner authorized for you and nothing can be redeemed there.
2. Check the code
- Ask the customer to open the voucher in their SPKTRM Wallet.
- Type the code shown on their screen (
SPK-XXXX-XXXX) into Voucher code. - Press Check code.
Camera scanning needs the device app and the platform backend, which do not exist yet. Typing the code is the approved method.
Result: a verdict. Valid — build the basket, then start the redemption means you can continue. Anything else, follow the instruction shown. See Validation results.
The verdict also shows the voucher's terms: Offer, Benefit, Minimum invoice, Valid at, Expires, With other coupons and Already-discounted items.
3. Build the basket
- Under Basket, add what the customer is buying with Product and Quantity, or an Amount (KWD) for other items. Mark lines that are Already discounted.
- Check Eligible items and the Expected discount. The discount is worked out on eligible items only.
- Type the Till receipt number. It links this redemption to the sale.
If the basket does not qualify, the screen says Basket does not qualify. Nothing is reserved; adjust the basket or tell the customer why.
4. Start the redemption
Press Start redemption. The voucher is now reserved, and pressing twice never creates a second transaction.
5. Confirm at the till
Apply the discount on your till, then record what the till actually did:
- Record the till's discount — type exactly what the receipt shows in Discount the till applied (KWD). If it matches, the redemption is recorded and reconciled. If it differs, it is kept, flagged and sent to the exception queue — never overwritten.
- Sale cancelled — no discount was given. The voucher is released for the customer.
- Till did not respond — the outcome is unknown. See Outcome unknown.
Press Next customer to clear the screen. Checking a new code also clears the previous basket and receipt.
Cancel an unfinished attempt
Cancel attempt releases the hold: the voucher stays valid for the customer and no points change. It does not cancel the voucher. It is not available once the outcome is unknown.
To cancel a voucher itself, see Vouchers and coupons. A cashier asks a manager.
Outcome unknown
If the service did not confirm in time, the voucher stays reserved and nobody knows yet whether the discount was given.
- Press Check status.
- If it is still unknown, find out from the till or the customer's receipt whether the discount was given.
- Resolve it in Redeemed rewards → Exception queue with a note. See Exception queue.
Offline
If the device is offline, a code cannot be checked — it may already have been used at another till. Do not accept it. SPKTRM does not accept vouchers offline. Reconnect, or follow your store's procedure.
Report a problem
From a verdict, press Report this scan to open a support case with the store, branch, scanner, voucher and error filled in. See Support and disputes.
Practise safely
In the preview, Demo scenario lets you rehearse failures: Service responds normally, Service unavailable (nothing is reserved; the basket and receipt stay) and Request times out after reserving. Nothing real is called.
